Rainy day braids x
Okay so if you're anything like me, for the past week you've been hiding in your bed. This weather has been absolutely terrible. There's something about groggy days that either inspire me to the max, or drain me beyond belief. Hit or miss..
Something that really sucks about rainy, foggy, gross days, is what it does to your poor hair. On gross days I always like to embrace the weather. I'll avoid a shower, flood my roots with dry shampoo and add texture and salt to my ends. This is my prep for my next step:
the trustee braid
. My favourite dry shampoo is
Nutrient-rich Coconut Oil Dry Shampoo
I got mine at Winners but the link attached is the same one. It smells so good and really does a good job about mattifying your roots. I try not to wash my hair very often (twice a week ish) so this stuff definitely saves the day. -
As do ball hats and beanies
lol. My next product is the
Mermaid Waves Sea Salt Texturizing Hair Spray
by Lou La Belle Skincare. It smells like a dream,
and
implies that I'm sort of like a mermaid.
iluuuuuuuuuu
. It adds the perfect amount of grit to your hair and perfect for a messy braid.
Once my hair's prepped, I start braiding. For some weird reason I've been able to do all these crazy braids since I was young. I don't know where it came from or how I learned, but I don't even use a mirror. My hands just do it. For most normal people, intense braids don't come naturally, so I'll attach a couple youtube videos
and
to help you out.
This braid is an inverted, french, fishtail braid. To try to explain, it's a fishtail braid, but taking the pieces under instead of over, and also adding a piece of loose hair from each side, each time. Make sense? If you wan't, I can make a mini video showing how.
My favourite things about braids is that one whole day of a hairstyle, can also run into the next days hairstyle. The lazy girl's dream. I always wear my hair in a braid at night when I want loose waves and no styling the next day.
Which is almost every night
. It works every time. I'll suggest a loose braid so there are no tight kinks. But sometimes I like to tie them a little tighter and run my straightener through them the next day so they loosen up, but they're still somewhat styled.
Another thing I want to talk about is extensions. For some reason the world was brainwashed to think that shorter hair requires less maintenance. Can we all forget that you ever thought this???? This is made up and absolutely untrue. People always tell me,
I could never wear hair extensions because they're too much work.
NO THEY ARE NOT.
It is so much easier to do things with your hair when it's long. You can curl extensions and pop them in without even brushing your real hair. And they stay curled for like a week! Again, lazy girl's dream. I've had extensions for years and they make my life so much easier. I'm definitely not someone who does my hair every day and I definitely don't wash my hair as much. It looks cuter under a hat, and I throw it in a braid every other day. I cannot do any of this with my short hair.
The color of my hair has been transformed by the hair guru
. It's such a bright blonde now and my little broken baby hairs are growing in healthily!! Madison is located in a central location uptown and is so much fun to chat with while getting your hair done. I love to talk, and so does she, so it just flies by. Hahaha. So blondes; I know hair stylists are hard to find -->>
Something else I like to do on rainy days is add a pop of lipstick. It's the perfect pick me up and outfit spark that sometimes you need on a dark day. I wore this on my Instagram story last week and I got so many replies asking what shade this is. This shade is
It's so hard putting on real clothes instead of slipping into your lulus on a day like this, but do it!! You'll feel better! Add some lipstick, throw in a braid and go get itttttttt.
