I’m excited to share with you guys some of the fun things that Justin and I do for date night! Some are more fancy than others, and some are cheap and really accessible! We do them all! Some are fun to plan out, and some are fun to decide last minute. I think it’s really important to keep a little bit of excitement and connection in a relationship and still get excited about each other, and the little things. It’s SO often that we go days with only seeing each other in sweats, no bra and watching Netflix. So getting dressed up and planning an activity for the evening after work is really fun!

1. Takeout & wine on the beach before sunset

Date night can be cheap!! It’s always fun to get dressed up and plan a fancy night out on the town, but sometimes the most simple activities can make for the best memories and chats. One of my favourite memories I have, is when Justin and I picked up food and a bottle of wine in Cape Breton and pulled over to a little private beach and sat there enjoying it and talking until it was dark out. It’s so fun to do this in the spur of the moment and doesn’t require much planning. Things that help make it a little more enjoyable (that are easily forgotten lol) are wine glasses, a blanket to sit on and a portable speaker.

2. Dinner & Yuk Yuk's!

We love doing this!! Uptown Saint John has a lot of great restaurants and picking one on a Thursday night is a little easier than picking one on the weekend! Going somewhere like Decimal 81 and having a bite before Yuk Yuk's is so fun! Sometimes we don't even eat dinner and just get a bunch of apps! Yuk Yuk's is Saint John's Comedy Club that can be found by all the string lights in Grannan Alley. Parking is free after 6 and there is 2h parking on the far end of Germain, so you’re good! Yuk Yuk's has new comedian acts every single weekend so you could literally go, every single weekend. That’s crazy hahaha. If you haven’t been to Yuk Yuk's yet, you neeeeeeeed to!!! Justin and I go a lot, and it’s so friggen fun! You can get popcorn and buckets of beer and just be prepared to laugh your butt off. We always feel so rejuvenated when we leave from laughing so hard.

3. Staycation at the Hilton

Getting away is hard sometimes, and when we think of getting away we think of getting far away. A staycation at the Hilton is a perfect way to get away, but not far hahaha. Plan a sleepover for the dog, or your kids at their grandparents, and make some dinner reservations! There’s something about the atmosphere of a hotel that just makes you feel excited. A good way to spend a little bit of $$ and treating yourselves. Order some fancy drinks at the hotel bar, then go up and watch Netflix in your robes!! (That’s what we would do LOL)

4. Drinks and drinks!!

We do this a lot too! Justin is someone that likes to hop around for “drinks” I never quite understood this lol but it really is fun! Picking a couple spots uptown and just going for 1 drink, then going to the next spot! Normally we do Hopscotch, Port City Royal and sometimes Italian by Night or Brits! (Also our date nights lately have been this, then going home half buzzed and walking the dog, also a funny activity lol)

5. Date night at home

This is one thing that won me over when Justin and I started dating. He kept inviting me over to have wine while he cooked. UM YES. Perfect. Hi. While I don’t cook, I’m sure if you have ANY interest in cooking, this could be a fun activity to do together. If not then, have a seat, grab a glass and be there to keep up the good conversation. Lol. Or order takeout. Turn down the lights, light a bunch of candles (I recommend the Michaels Candles! lol! They are cheap and burn for a long time) set the table and find a good playlist. For this one, it’s all about setting the atmosphere, or else you’ll just feel like no big deal, you’re at home, cool. It’s fun! We do this one more than anything.
