Home Series: Laundry Room Reveal

Hey guys!I hope everyone’s hanging in there okay. I am excited to bring something “normal” to your newsfeeds during this very not normal time… So if you remember, this house originally had laundry shared in the main level bathroom. We kept the bathroom there, swapped out the washer and dryer and placed our dream clawfoot tub! The house is a little confusing to explain, but we knocked down a bedroom wall on the main level and opened everything up. We then put up another wall to create a little tiny separate laundry room.

This room has no window or natural light so picking a paint colour was really fun this time. Normally people choose a paint colour that would make the room appear larger, but this time I really wanted to play into the size of the space and wanted it to feel small, functional and moody. The paint colour we chose was Dark Musk by Sico, colour matched at Grand Bay Home Hardware in a matte finish. I didn’t want there to be a ton of contrast in here which is why we went for a grey floor tile and also painted the baseboards the same colour as the walls.

I think one of my favourite parts is the backsplash. I’ve been wanted to use this textured tile for so long. We got this from our friends at B&N Flooring. The tile is from the Zellige series and the colour is graphite. Again, I wanted it to add dimension and texture, but not contrast. The light that these tiles reflect is really cool and it looks like they’ve been there forever. Above the tile is our picture ledge by Power Designs. We painted it using the wall paint and it’s something else that I just wanted to blend in while adding subtle detail. The painting on the picture ledge is something I created special to the space. I wanted it to be the piece that added a touch of contrast. For this one I used charcoal on linen, in a metal frame.

The dresser is one we found on Kijiji and painted it to match. We needed some kind of usable storage in here and it was a challenge to find something that went with the space, but was also completely functional for a laundry room. Open shelving is cute if you’re not actually using it for things you need, like laundry pods. Lol.
Our drying rack is from Ikea and seems to be pretty sturdy! We bought two but only installed one for now, we’ll see it we put the other one up, probably above it.

Our light fixture we got last year but were waiting for the perfect spot for it. It is from Kichler Lighting and it gives off a really soft ring light that is really nice for a dark space. This design comes in a matte white too that I really love and can see in our future. Lol. Almost all of our lighting in our home is from Kichler. I really like their selections because I can always find something that has a minimal, monochromatic, design. And basically that’s all I’m looking for for lighting, always! Lol.

I can’t even explain how much more enjoyable doing laundry in here has been. LOL. The countertop above the washer & dryer has been great for folding, having all of our washer pods, dryer balls, etc, ready in the top drawer is awesome and walking into a space that looks and feels finished is the best part.

Our washer and dryer are from Samsung Home Appliances. I absolutely LOVE their products, and I love the stainless steel look that they have. The little cactus on the right was a Wayfair find. The planter is one I found at HomeSense last year but I found a really similar one here. I pictured a cactus in here but knew it had to be faux because of the lack of natural light in here. This one looks pretty real and I’m quite impressed by it! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a little added greenery for a space that doesn’t quite welcome them!

I hope this brought a little distraction to your otherwise stressful, uncertain week! Let me know what you think over on Instagram!
